The Komood system

The selection and combination of colours for each individual product is one of Komood's core competencies. In addition to its professional eye and the knowledge and experience gained from its own many years of consulting work, Komood also values the direct feedback from experienced consulting customers.

Komood is based on the colour wheel in order to provide each colour-typed product with a comprehensible and broad spectrum of colours. Another special feature of Komood is that the respective colour palettes are specially averaged and weighted. Specifically, the characteristics on which each colour type is based are adhered to, but the colour combinations are not purely theoretical, but very much practice-oriented. This focus on user-friendliness is based in particular on years of expertise in colour and style consulting as well as the consideration of general visual habits and preferences in connection with the colour ranges usually found in the trade.

Changes and deviations

Due to changes in material suppliers, it is necessary to adjust colour assignments from time to time. Komood has developed its own multi-stage procedure for this, which ensures a type-compliant and balanced colour selection at all times.

Occasionally, individual colours have to be replaced by other colours for technical reasons. In these cases, the colours of individual colour cards and the colour sorting may differ from the product images, particularly in the case of colour fans.

The colour display

Dealing with colours is a particular challenge for our eyesight. If you move around in nature, a certain leaf green appears differently in diffuse daylight than it does in direct sunlight or at dusk. External factors, such as light and surroundings, but also the eyesight of the person looking at it, create different perceptions of a colour.

When displaying colours on monitors and prints, there are additional influencing factors. These include technical limitations in colour reproduction caused by certain colour spaces (RGB, CMYK, etc.). We have more or less got used to these. The individual settings for colour reproduction on screens are usually more problematic. Adjustments to saturation, luminosity or contrast alone can distort natural colours considerably. The use of modern eye protection filters also changes the entire colour spectrum of the monitor display.

The presentation of our products in the web shop is based on a mediated representation between the natural image and the perception on the monitor.
